Leadership and Management Responsibility?
Due to teaching PE I have had different leadership opportunities since initially starting my training, which have included running a range of different extra-curricular clubs and sports teams. Also this has linked into the responsibility of students when I have taken them out onto different schools trips too.
Highlights of your training year?
There were many highlights in and out of school including personal accomplishments with certain classes and various rewards trips. However the graduation ceremony was without doubt the biggest highlight of my training year. It was such a great feeling getting to that point with my fellow trainees, then celebrating our achievements and receiving our QTS qualification.
Most challenging aspects of your training year, and how were they resolved?
I found it really difficult managing all the work load from the paper work from our schools direct programme, and also our PGCE assignments at the start of the course. However with the great support and guidance which I received from my training manager and mentors, I was then able to focus on setting myself targets weekly to ensure I kept on top of all the work to prevent myself from getting behind on it.
What skills from your training have you drawn upon since graduating?
That there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to teaching. I have been able to experiment and try to implement different ways to changing lesson to benefit the group of students learning. Also set myself different targets each week of what I’m required to get done, and focus on the positives in lessons and rewarding students for this too.
